Save-the-Date
May 9, 2026
In our culture and community, Día de las Madres is more than a date on the calendar, it is a deeply rooted tradition of gratitude, resilience, and love. Mothers and grandmothers are the heartbeat of our families and neighborhoods. They hold our stories, pass down culture, and quietly carry the weight of generations.
This is more than a race.
It is a tribute.
It is a thank you.
It is a celebration of the women in our lives.

The Carrera de las Madres 5K was created to honor these women in a way that reflects who we are as a community. This event invites madres, abuelitas, daughters, sons, and everyone in between to come together in a shared experience of movement and celebration. Walking or running side by side becomes a symbol, honoring the paths our mothers walked before us, and committing to healthier futures for the generations to come.
El Barrio | The Neighborhood
In neighborhoods like Archer Heights and the surrounding Southwest Side, families gather, celebrate, and move through life together, often across multiple generations under one roof. Health, culture, and family are inseparable here.
By hosting this event at Archer Park, near Midway Airport, we are intentionally rooting the race in the barrio, accessible, familiar, and reflective of the families it serves. This is not a destination race; it is a community gathering, built by and for the neighborhood.
Why This Race Matters
In many Latino households, mothers are caregivers not only to their children, but also to elders, extended family, and the community at large. Too often, their own health and well-being come last.
The La Carrera de las Madres 5K creates a space where mothers are centered, celebrated, and supported, while promoting physical activity, wellness, and connection in a culturally affirming way.
Los Ingresos | The Proceeds
Proceeds from the Día de las Madres 5K support UNO’s Programs, which provide guidance, mentorship, leadership development, and physical activity opportunities for girls in 6th–12th grade.
